After a long break from the last trip, we continue to Portugal. Then we conquer the mainland. Portugal is also a particularly beautiful country with a lot of history from the Roman Empire and is quite different from Scotland in its flair and mentality.

Lamego

Lamego is a town of Viseu south of the Douro River and north of Portugal. Currently she is in possession of the Catholic diocese. Lamego is like many other cities of Portugal very old, it was settled by "Turdulen" and around 570 AD. mentioned for the first time.

Cathedral of Lamego - is one of the three attractions you can visit in town. It is a pilgrimage chapel which can be reached by a double staircase of 613 steps. "The Shrine" of Nossa Senhora dos Remedios and the Municipal Museum are also of historic importance next to the chapel.

Kathedrale von Lamego - ist einer der drei Sehenswürdigkeiten die man im Ortbesichtigen kann. Es handelt sich um eine Wallfahrtskapelle die durch eine Doppeltreppe von 613 Stufen zu erreichen ist. "Der Schrein" der Nossa Senhora dos Remedios und das städtische Museum sind neben der Kapelle ebenfalls von historischer Bedeutung.

After a short walk through the Douro Valley, we reach Porto.

Porto is a coastal town in northwestern Portugal and has the most magnificent bridges and wine-making in the country. The second largest and most busy city has become a popular tourist destination in Western Europe. For locals, Porto is the important economic and industrial center of Portugal.

Die zweitgrößte und sehr belebte Stadt ist zu einem beliebten Urlaubsziel von Touristen in Westeuropa geworden. By crossing a bridge in the Douro Valley we reach the small village of Mateus.

Mit der Überquerung einer Brücke im Douro-Tal gelangen wir zum kleinen Örtchen Mateus.

Mateus

Although Mateus is only a small village of about 5000 inhabitants in the municipality of Vila Real, but has a beautiful palace. The Mateus Palace.The tour of the palace built around 1745 and the garden is highly recommended.

The trip goes on... We leave Portugal for a brief moment and travel to northwest Spain, to the city of Salamanca.

Salamanca

Is a large city in northwestern Spain and was built in antiquity around 219 BC. founded as "Salamanica". It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has become an important destination of international education. In 2002, Salamanca was together with the city of Bruges, European Capital of Culture. Worth seeing are the two cathedrals, which belong to the world cultural heritage.

Ist eine große Stadt im Nordwesten von Spanien und wurde in der Antike um 219 v.Chr. als "Salamanica" gegründet. Es gehört zur UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe und wurde zu einem wichtigen Ziel der internationalen Bildung. 2002 war Salamanca zusammen mit der Stadt Brügge, Kulturhauptstadt Europas. Sehr sehenswert sind die beiden Kathedralen, die zum Weltkulturerbe zählen.

Fatima is the most important place of pilgrimage in Portugal and is located in the center of the country. The sanctuary of the city is the Catholic pilgrimage or pilgrimage church.

Another time we cross the Douro Valley, but here it goes with a ship through the narrow valleys. During the cruise we enjoy the beautiful river landscape Douros. We now arrive at the place Estoril.

Ein weiteres Mal durchqueren wir das Douro - Tal, allerdings geht es hier mit einem Schiff durch die engen Täler. Bei der Schiffsfahrt genießen wir die wunderschöne Flusslandschaft Douros. Wir gelangen nun zum Ort Estoril.

Estoril

Estoril is a small seaside resort of Cascais on the Costa do Estoril and counts as a retreat of the rich upper class. Since the 20th century is a place of modernity, with casinos and sophisticated hostel. Estoril has also starred in international films such as "James Bond 007 - Her Majesty's Secret Service". Since 2007, the traditional film festival LEF Fest Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival is held.

Estoril ist ein kleiner Seebadort von Cascais an der Costa do Estoril und zählt als Rückzugsort der reichen Oberschicht. Seit dem 20 Jhd. ist ein Ort der Moderne, mit Casinos und mondänen Herberge. Seit 2007 wird das traditionelle Filmfestival LEF Fest Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival ausgetragen.

Lissabon

Lisbon is the largest and at the same time the capital of Portugal. Data (from Wikipedia): 550000 inhabitants, area 84.92 km², mayor is Fernando Medina Lisbon was founded in Julius Caesar's time and was therefore under Roman municipal law, it was only Portuguese in 1147. Lissabon ist die größte und zu gleich auch die Hauptstadt von Portugal.
