Last year we made a trip to The Netherlands and also visited Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. It is a wonderful city and as always when we come in an famous place we take the opportunity to visit an old church, a cathedral or a castle. A famous cathedral in Stockholm is the Storkyrkan which is located in Gamla Stan, the Old City. It is a beautiful cathedral that is well-known for the sculpture of St.George and the dragon. It was carved out of one big piece of oak by Berndt Notke of Lübeck. One day Cleodolinda the daughter of the king was to be sacrified but St. George promised the king to slay the dragon under the condition that all citizens of the city would convert themselves to christianity and be baptized. And that is what happened.
