Hi @stellabelle, thank you for raising this topic, hope this reply supports your post and keep the dialogue going: I'm new to Steemit, 2+ weeks lurking around (1+ week replying and asking questions). For now I'm still undecided if I want to invest serious stash into Steem. I've been occupied just reading, and replying, to all the wonderful posters here. There are alot of unknown rules of how the steem blockchain has been used on a blogging site like steemit. But the wall of information on how steemit works as a community is more complex and alot to behold. Seems like if a new person starts today without an existing following (from another social media platform or their own website) or funds (or get support from a big dolphin, orca, or whale)...my guess would be they would struggle to get to any significant status (eg. Orca) even if they have great content to share. Heck, I am now convince that whale status (1GVest?) can only be bought. This is very different as compared to starting from scratch back in 2016 when more founders, dolphins, sharks, whales, orcas, etc.. were actively curating because of the growing enthusiasm of blockchain's rising tide that brought up $ value for all alt-coins. Now that the tide is rising predominantly only for ICO, Bitcoin, maybe Eth, and perhaps only a handful of alt-coins (like EOS), and with Steem steadily declining for months now; I notice that orcas & whales have not just consistently been cashing out daily, but also have **not** participated in curation as much as they did before. I wonder, what is the upvote participation today for whales (sharks, orca or any large steem holders) as compared to 3, 6, 9, and 12 months ago? I would think some figures could have declined. Anyways, to help offset the large Steem holder (orca, whales, sharks, etc) lack of participation. I do have some proposals to tweak the steem blockchain so it benefit the majority of users on steemit. Summary: key-upvoted applies to only 1 account 1 vote once every 24 hours - so this vote factor is not just wealth dependent but had democratic brain value (if someone only votes 1 time for only 1 post by a particular steemian in 24hours then it defaults to becoming a key-upvote). So if 100 key upvotes = 1.01 x regular steem payout, 1,000 key upvotes = 1.1 x regular steem payout, 10,000 key upvotes = 2 x steem payout It's like a bonus to reflect how many people took the **time** to recognize the poster, not just the wealthy ones. Last I checked time goes by equally for all.
