We are Sikizana Trust; a community-based organization in Makueni County, Kenya. Since its establishment in 2005, we have created and given hope and transformation for vulnerable children and the wider community.

We have been rescuing and Nurturing Children by providing a haven for children who have faced adversity, including abandonment, violence, and poverty. Our rescue centre, offers shelter, education, and emotional support. Many children who once had uncertain futures have now grown into self-sufficient individuals, thanks to Sikizana’s care.
We take education as a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering future leaders. The New Century School is an informal school under Sikizana Trust that guarantees Education for All by offering free education to rescued children. Late learners from the community also have the opportunity to catch up and receive education appropriate for their age.
Sikizana Trust actively engages children in environmental conservation. We teach the importance of planting trees, combating poaching, and maintaining a clean environment to create responsible citizens who care for their surroundings.
The trust ensures that its facilities are disability-friendly. Ramps and designated washrooms cater to physically challenged children, making their movements easier. This ensures Inclusivity and Accessibility. Music and sports play therapeutic roles in healing trauma. Dancing to local and global beats helps children relax and express themselves.

120 children are currently in the various grades ranging from pre-school to grade 5. They receive individualistic attention that takes into account their delay in joining school and their traumatic past. Five grades are learning under temporary shelters or trees. This does not provide a proper conducive environment for learning. However, we need furniture (Desks and chairs) as the most urgent support so that even when they learn under a tree, they sit comfortably.
