Dove? Teil 2.

Ich öffnete vorsichtig die Tür zum Konferenzraum. "...in der Geschichte der Wissenschaft. Begrüßen Sie daher mit mir unseren heutigen Gast, Herrn Dr. Zyx!" Es erklang wohlwollender Applaus, und der galt offensichtlich mir. So entspannt wie möglich schritt ich zum Rednerpult, räusperte mich kurz und begann: „Wer war Dove? Diejenige Person, von der ich hier sprechen will, hieß mit vollem Namen Heinrich Wilhelm Dove und wurde vor mittlerweile 225 Jahren geboren, nämlich 1803. Er war ein bedeutender Erfinder und Wissenschaftler des XIX. Jahrhunderts mit Auswirkungen bis in die heutige Zeit. Insbesondere geht auf ihn die Meteorologie und Wettervorhersage auf wissenschaftlicher Grundlage zurück. Dreißig Jahre lang leitete er das Meteorologische Institut der Berliner Humboldt-Universität, damals noch Friedrich-Wilhelm-Universität genannt.“ Ich nahm einen kleinen Schluck aus dem bereit gestellten Wasserglas und schaute dabei unauffällig auf meine Armbanduhr. Dank Maudita oder wie sie heißen mag war ich nur drei Minuten zu spät angetreten. Mein Vorredner hatte die Differenz entweder souverän überbrückt oder war selbst erst leicht verspätet eingestiegen. Drei Minuten. Das Publikum wäre sicherlich in drei Minuten ohne Ansprache vom Rednerpult aus, ohne Bespaßung oder Information, unruhig oder irritiert geworden. Für die Beschäftigung mit den akut gewordenen Klimafragen sind nicht nur drei Minuten, sondern mindestens dreißig Jahr weitgehend ungenutzt verstrichen. Wer ist deswegen unruhig oder irritiert? Nur die sogenannten Klima-Aktivisten? „Der gemeinte Heinrich Wilhelm Dove“, fuhr ich fort, „der nicht verwechselt werden darf oder kann mit seinem gleichnamigen Sohn, einem Juristen und Politiker in der Zeit des Übergangs vom Deutschen Kaiserreich zur ersten deutschen, der so genannten Weimarer Republik. Der Vater hingegen erlebte diese Zeit nicht mehr, denn er starb bereits 1879. Dieser Dove der Ältere, wie ich ihn nennen möchte, war Physiker mit philosophischer Bildung. Er hatte als etwas über zwanzig Jähriger Vorlesungen über Naturphilosophie bei Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel gehört und dabei Mitschriften angefertigt, die bedeutend genug schienen, sie im Jahre 2007 noch zu veröffentlichen, also rund 180 Jahre später.“ Wer kann von sich sagen oder ahnen, was von ihm oder ihr in 180 Jahren noch interessant genug ist? Dieser Frage konnte ich jetzt nicht nachgehen, ich musste allmählich die Kurve kriegen zu meinen eigentlichen Punkten: Meteorologie als physikalisch hoch anspruchsvolle Wissenschaft vom Wetter – und Klima als mathematisch ebenso anspruchsvolle Verdichtung von sorgfältigen Mess-Daten zum Wetter. Wetter-Prognosen und Klima-Modelle als die höchsten Herausforderungen für Super-Computer und die Entwickler von Algorithmen. Keine Spielwiese für Umweltschutz- oder Energieversorgungs-Ideologien, sondern eine Riesen-Aufgabe für die Informationsvermittlung durch Wissenschaftsjournalismus. Fünfzig Minuten später war mein Wasserglas leer, und das Publikum wirkte unruhig und irritiert. Einen letzten Satz hatte ich noch: "Dove in Anspruch zu nehmen für die Ausrufung eines Klima-Notstandes offenbart daher mehr über Propaganda als über Meteorologie, mehr über Instrumentalisierung als über Sachverstand." Ich machte eine winzige Kunstpause. "Und mehr über manche Menschen als über das Wetter. Vielen Dank." Gab es Tumult oder Buhrufe? Eisiges Schweigen? Beifall? Ich musste dringendst zur Toilette und entschlüpfte durch den Seitenausgang schräg hinter dem Rednerpult. Als ich wenige Minuten später zurück in den Konferenzraum wollte, konnte ich diese Tür von außen nicht öffnen. Ich suchte den Haupteingang und schaute durch die Korridore. Wo befand sich die Loge des Concierge? Es konnte ja wohl nicht angehen, dass ich innerhalb dieses Gebäudes die Orientierung verloren hatte! Plötzlich stand ich hinter einer unscheinbaren Tür im Freien, dicht an einem Wasserkreuz. Ein schmaler Weg führte unter einer Reihe von jungen Orangenbäumen eng an einem der Wasserläufe entlang des Hauses auf eine breite Treppe zu. Ich steppte hinauf und schaute auf meine Armbanduhr. Freitag, der 09. Juni 2028. Es begann, nieselnd zu regnen, und ich schaute nach rechts und nach links. Ganz offensichtlich stand ich wieder an der Dovestraße, dicht neben der Dovebrücke, wenn auch nicht direkt vor der Nummer 11. Wo war der Eingang? Hier links irgendwo musste er doch sein. Plötzlich hielt vor mir recht scharf bremsend ein Taxi, und niemand stieg aus. "Komm schon rein!", scholl es durch das Fenster am Beifahrersitz, das eine handbreit offen stand. I carefully opened the door to the conference room. "...in the history of science. So please join me in welcoming our guest today, Dr Zyx!" There was a sound of benevolent applause, and it was obviously for me. As relaxed as possible, I strode to the lectern, cleared my throat briefly and began: "Who was Dove? The person I want to talk about here was called Heinrich Wilhelm Dove and was born 225 years ago, in 1803. He was an important inventor and scientist of the XIXth century with an impact up to the present day. In particular, meteorology and weather forecasting on a scientific basis can be traced back to him. For thirty years he headed the Meteorological Institute of the Berlin Humboldt University, then called Friedrich Wilhelm University." I took a small sip from the glass of water provided and looked discreetly at my wristwatch. Thanks to Maudita or whatever her name was, I had arrived only three minutes late. The audience would certainly have become uneasy or irritated in three minutes without an address from the lectern, without being entertained or informed. Not only three minutes, but at least thirty years have passed largely unused for dealing with the climate issues that have become acute. Who is restless or irritated because of this? Only the so-called climate activists? "The meant Heinrich Wilhelm Dove," I continued, "who must not or cannot be confused with his son of the same name, a lawyer and politician in the period of transition from the German Empire to the first German, the so-called Weimar Republic. His father, on the other hand, did not live to see this period, having died in 1879. This Dove the Elder, as I will call him, was a physicist with a philosophical education. When he was just over twenty years old, he had listened to lectures on natural philosophy by Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel and made notes that seemed significant enough to be published in 2007, some 180 years later." Who can say or guess what will still be interesting enough from him or her in 180 years? I couldn't pursue this question now, I had to gradually get my bearings on my actual points: Meteorology as a physically highly demanding science of weather - and climate as a mathematically equally demanding condensation of careful measurement data on weather. Weather forecasts and climate models as the highest challenges for super-computers and the developers of algorithms. Not a playground for environmental protection or energy supply ideologies, but a huge task for the communication of information by science journalism. Fifty minutes later, my water glass was empty and the audience seemed uneasy and irritated. I had one last sentence: "To claim Dove for declaring a climate emergency therefore reveals more about propaganda than meteorology, more about instrumentalisation than expertise." I paused for a tiny moment of emphasis. "And more about some people than about the weather. Thank you." Was there uproar or booing? Icy silence? Applause? I urgently needed to go to the toilet and slipped out through the side exit diagonally behind the lectern. When I wanted to return to the conference room a few minutes later, I could not open this door from the outside. I looked for the main entrance and glanced through the corridors. Where was the concierge's box? It couldn't be possible that I had lost my orientation inside this building! Suddenly I was standing behind an inconspicuous door in the open, close to a water cross. A narrow path led under a row of young orange trees, close to one of the watercourses along the house, towards a wide staircase. I tap-danced up and looked at my wristwatch. Friday, 09 June 2028. It began to drizzle and I looked to my right and to my left. Obviously I was back on Dove Street, close to the Dove Bridge, though not directly in front of number 11. Where was the entrance? It had to be somewhere here on the left. Suddenly a taxi stopped in front of me, braking quite sharply, and nobody got out. "Come on in!" I heard through the window of the passenger seat, which was a hand's width open. I knew that voice, didn't I? *thanks to DeepL*
