Fire in Kavala

Yesterday was an unusual day on Thassos - when we woke up we thought the island was on fire. The sky was yellowish and the view slightly cloudy - it looked like other pictures of holidaymakers from all over Greece. Since the flow of information is very fast thanks to the internet, we were able to find out after about 30 minutes that there was no fire on Thasos, but in Kavala. This is the next largest town on the mainland. At first, rumours spread that these were from the fire in Alexandropolis - where it has been burning for days. But the clouds were too small for that and a check of the wind direction could also rule this out.  As far as we know, the fires in Kavala were quickly brought under control and worse could be prevented.

All in all, it was still a bit scary - with the lottery you always think, "Yes, hopefully it will happen to me." With things like that, "Oh, why should it happen to me?"  Sometimes it's funny what makes people tick. Towards evening, the sky was still cloudy and the sun could only be seen through a veil. Overall, the light was very defuse all day, but it became increasingly "clear". The pictures in this post are NOT edited, but taken as they are. Camera-wise, the iPhone 14 Pro was used here - so the jpeg's have been interpreted by the iPhone.

Gestern war ein unüblicher Tag auf Thassos - als wir aufgewacht sind hatten wir zunächst gedacht auf der Insel brennt es. Der Himmel war gelblich und die Sicht leicht getrübt - es sah so aus, wie man das von anderen Bildern von Urlaubern aus ganz Griechenland aktuell kennt. Da der Informationsfluss dank des Internets sehr schnell funktioniert, konnten wir nach ca. 30 Minuten feststellen, dass es nicht auf Thasos brennt, sondern in Kavala. Das ist der nächst größere Ort auf dem Festland. Zunächst streuten sich Gerüchte, dass diese vom Brand aus Alexandropolis sind - wo es seit Tagen brennt. Aber dafür waren die Wolken zu klein und auch eine Überprüfung der Windrichtung konnte dies ausschließen.  Nach unserem Wissensstand waren die Feuer in Kavala recht schnell unter Kontrolle und schlimmeres konnte verhindert werden.

Alles in allem war es trotzdem etwas beängstigend - beim Lotto denkt man immer: „Ja hoffentlich trifft es mich.“ Bei solchen Dingen: „Ach wieso sollte es bei mir passieren?“  Manchmal komisch wie man so tickt. Gegen Abend war der Himmel noch wolkig und die Sonne war nur durch einen Schleier zusehen. Insgesamt, war das Licht den ganzen Tag über sehr defuse, aber es wurde zunehmend immer „klarer“. Die Bilder in diesem Beitrag sind NICHT editiert, sondern so aufgenommen. Kameratechnisch wurde hier das iPhone 14 Pro verwendet - die jpeg’s sind also vom iPhone interpretiert worden.
