### WHY SHOULD WE AVOID PROCRASTINATION?
Procrastination is a major obstacle to accomplishment. We humans are notorious procrastinators. We keep putting off our assignments until the last minute. We only take action when we are under pressure. However, doing the task at the last minute is stressful, and we risk overlooking important details. However, if we complete our tasks on time, we will prevent tension and will have enough time to double-check our work before the deadline. To avoid mistakes and achieve objectives properly, rechecking is essential before submitting any assignment. We must avoid procrastinating at all costs to accomplish our job perfectly. But, given our proclivity for procrastination, this will not be an easy feat. It has become worse for the majority of individuals throughout this pandemic because some of them do not have any school or office work.
### HOW CAN WE AVOID PROCRASTINATION?
We should first understand our own psychology in order to avoid procrastination. We must determine why we procrastinate in the first place. Is it a result of severe indolence? Is it owing to a lack of motivation? Is it because of a bodily ailment or is it something else? No matter how many strategies we use, we won't be able to solve the problem if we don't understand the root cause. As a result, the first step is to determine the proper cause. We should then begin working on it once it is done. - **If it is due to indolence**, we must remind ourselves that being lazy will not help us. However, it will cause trouble, whether they are physical, educational, or work-related. We can resolve this problem by counseling ourselves and understanding the ramifications.. - **If it is due to a lack of motivation**, we should set some exciting goals for ourselves and reward our brain after we finish a task. The brain loves rewarding experiences. It releases dopamine (commonly known as the "happy hormone") when we reward ourselves for our accomplishments, which makes us feel better. - **If it is due to a physical ailment**, we must seek medical advice to resolve the problem. It is very simple that if we are physically ill, we will not be able to complete any tasks properly, and we will procrastinate.
### MY WAYS TO AVOID PROCRASTINATION:
My procrastination was due to a lack of drive as a result of depression, which I had been suffering from for a few years. It was not a major depressive disorder, but neither was it insignificant. People who are depressed have no desire to achieve anything in their lives. To them, everything appears to be pale. That is what made me postpone my work so much. As soon as I discovered this, I began to research the best solution to my issue. Setting interesting goals, as I have stated, is an excellent way to overcome depression and the resulting procrastination. I set some **short-term and long-term goals**. Because I knew procrastination would return whenever I ran out of fresh goals. It was difficult to break this bad habit since it was so tenacious. It gave me a really hard time, but it was worth trying. Let's have a look at how I executed this strategy: **FOR SHORT-TERM GOALS** - I started by making a list of the tasks I was procrastinating on. I jotted them down on a piece of paper. After that, I established a daily routine. However, this routine was unique in that I did not assign a precise time to each task. - Whenever I felt like doing it, I completed a chore and crossed it off the list. It would trigger a pleasurable sensation in my brain, making me feel better every time I crossed anything off the list. - I selected a variety of colors to give that schedule a nice look, as I believe color affects the brain. I usually make it for a short period of time, like 15 or 20 days. Crossing is more effective for me than putting a tick in the box. I love those small boxes. It's so lovely!!}**
- I used the **color green for successful tasks and red for failed attempts**. The color red indicates that this activity was not completed on that day and that it requires attention the next day. - Another point was that it formed a **chain** when I crossed every day. I have found that my brain is adamant about not breaking the **green chain** at any cost. So I was putting in a lot of effort to complete the task successfully. - As a result, there were a few tasks that I never failed to complete, and it became a habit. Then I concentrated on the other tasks that I had been postponing. As a result, my productivity increased and procrastination was eliminated. **FOR LONG-TERM GOALS** - I created a map and a plan to help me achieve my ultimate aim. In my notepad, I wrote down my long-term goals. I kept looking for the most efficient technique to achieve my objective. - Our ability to achieve long-term goals is always connected to our ability to achieve short-term goals. So, if we accomplish our short-term objectives, we will eventually achieve our long-term objectives. --- As a result, I was constantly occupied with achieving my goals, and procrastination faded away. --- We never get tired of doing things we love, and we never postpone doing them. If we make the present productive, we will undoubtedly have a successful future. So the key was to focus on some exciting goals, consistent with maintaining a schedule, creating a positive (green) cycle, enjoying the process and, in the end, rewarding the brain with satisfaction. That's how I got rid of my procrastination. I highly recommend this strategy to anyone who is going through a similar state to mine. It works really well.
