Glad to have you back in this week’s edition of the contest. Hope we all are doing just great. I would like to appreciate @afrinn for organising this amazing contest. I believe it’s one way of getting us involved and intentional about our children’s growth.

What kind of food is most suitable for the proper mental and physical development of a child?

The foods should be:

• Vegetables: Children should have a lot of vegetables in their meals. This should include leafy foods that are fresh. It helps supply lots of nutrients and blood to the body. • Milk and dairy products: Milk is one of the products children thrive on, especially when they’re still very young. It boosts their brain and even the bones. • Beans: This is another source of protein. It’s one food that some kids do not like, but it is very rich in protein, and every parent should include it in their children’s meal planning. • Whole carbohydrates: Rice and other forms of foods that are rich in supplying the body with strength are very essential in building the children’s internal system. • Water: Lots of water can save the body more than one could imagine. It flushes or detoxifies the body, and keep the skin healthy.

How can parents play in a role in instilling good habits in children (such as reading on time, discipline, politeness)

First, I’d love to say parents are the first role models of their kids whenever and wherever. They play very significant roles in shaping the lives and future of their children in the society. Most times, children become the product of what their parents mould them to be, whether consciously, or subconsciously. ***Roles parents should play in instilling good habits in their kids:*** • Being responsible: Children emulate what they see. In fact, they always imitate at the first instance until they’re able to understand the reason behind an action to emulate it carefully and intentionally. This is why parents must be extremely careful not to misbehave before their kids. • Set clear rules and expectations: Parents, while being friendly, should be firm with the rules implementation. This would guide the children on what to expect. Setting clear rules is like setting very distinct boundaries for your children wherever they find themselves. They know what they’re expected to do, and how they should do it.

• Correct with love and patience: It is one thing to correct your kids, it is another thing to do it with love and patience. It is the reason parents must make it a thing to pay keen attention to how corrections are done with their kids.

Sometimes, children tend to pay more attention to manner and attitudes by which things are done. So, we could say that their emotions respond first than their right sense of accepting corrections. • Teach them gratitude and generosity: To be honest, it can be said confidently that children whose parents are generous grow up being generous. It becomes an inbuilt feature until they somehow choose to be different. It therefore means that parents, without faking it, should learn to be generous in giving, or spending quality time with their kids. • Involve them in responsibilities: One of the best ways of having your kids grow up responsibly is by assigning duties and roles to these ones. Telling them what to do in order to support or contribute to the house is a great way of having them growing up knowing that people are looking up to them for one or the other. It helps them to sit up. • Pray and reflect together: This is one amazing meeting that bonds a family together like a glue. When a family gets to pray and reflect together it shows they are all accountable to a supreme being. Their dependence on God communicates more meaning to their children than they should be told.

What kind of effects does spending too much time on mobile, or tablet have on children?

There are several effects spending too much time on mobile can do to kids. Sometimes, it happens even without it being planned. They are, but not limited to: • Isolation: It is a proven fact that kids who spend more time on their mobiles tend to be lonely most times. Sometimes, they stay to derive some sense of belonging or validation on these devices. • Anti-social: It easily detaches kids from organisations they should belong to. This makes it difficult for kids to get along with other people in a place. • Limited time with real people and family: This involves family and friends and others around them.

What kinds of games or activities are most suitable for increasing confidence and creativity in children?

They include: • Debate: Arguing on a topic, profession or a person who’s better than the other helps children speak confidently and be strong-willed about their decisions. • Art challenge: Art is an amazing activity that stimulates the mind and brain. Giving children the opportunity to paint out their imagination boosts their confidence level. • Storytelling: This is simply my best part. Storytelling helps a child imagine outside the box. Children get to tell what exits, or what might be an ordinary imagination. They bring these ideas to life through critical thinking.
