It belongs to the Nymphalidae or brush-footed butterfly family. It has weak fluttery flight. It is avoided by most insect predators. This species, and the tawny coster, are the only two Indian representatives of the predominantly African Acraeini tribe. The male is dark orange while the female is pale yellow. The forewings have two transverse black spots within the cell, a broader spot on the stem end of the cell and a series of black spots in spaces 2-6 and 10. The costal margins and tips are black. The hind wings have dark spots within the cells, a basal series of 4-5 black spots, subcostal spots and a series of disc spots. When I was walking around to get an object that I could photograph, I found an insect-like star that was perching on the trees, and I was interested in capturing it with my smartphone.
