Similar, but different!

It's been waiting there patiently to get its color. Lively colors seem fitting, now that winter has mostly turned into spring. Putting watercolor on these doodle illustrations helps me visualize how certain color palettes will look in future pieces.

Blending primary colors together to make the other colors in a composition works more harmoniously than using a large number of pre-mixed colors. Having many different factory-mixed greens on one palette is superfluous, in my experience. Better to mix two different blues with a yellow, or mix a tiny bit of red to much more yellow, then add blue in varying quantities.

These line art coloring exercises can also be a doorway to letting my mind wander into "The Zone", where I am free to dream and create without limitations.
