That's what we call self-love. You cannot give what you don't have. In other to effectively love others, you will need to first love yourself. It means giving your own self the proper attention desired by your own mind, body and soul. Some school of thought often see self-love to being selfish while some sees it as a basic necessity for the proper development and realization of oneself. Self-love is beyond relaxation, rest, sleep, partying, hangout, among many others. Have you ever considered why JESUS said in Matt. 22:37-40; >[37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. ... [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Why didn't the scripture just say love your neighbor only? We can see that in these verses, JESUS saw the great importance of self love. He new that we cannot effectively fulfil that part of loving one another without self-love. Now we must now know that we humans are naturally born selfish. So self-love has nothing to with selfishness. Selfishness is satisfying or pleasing oneself at the expensive of others. But self-love is not that. It's simply means acknowledging and meeting your general needs without affecting others negatively. To help you further differentiate between self-love and selfishness, always consider the motive of your actions. Always ask yourself 'why', why did I do that or why did i this. This will help you unravel the hidden truth behind your actions. All humans are selfish but the level of selfishness differs. Its better to reduce the level of selfishness in us and increase the rate of self-love to become great. Don't mistake selfishness for self-love. Below are some of the reasons why you should embrace self-love: 1. Self-love will help you achieve maximum inner peace and happiness. 2. Self-love will help you achieve maximum productivity in life. 3. Self-love will lead to self satisfaction. 4. Self-love will give you a healthy heart and mind . 5. Self-love will help you accept yourself. 6. Loving yourself will make you understand and know the reason why you should love others. 7. Self-love will lead to self-care. 8. Self-love will lead to self-realization. 9. Self-love will lead to self-motivation. 10. Self-love will help you eliminate self doubt. 11. Self-love will make you take good decisions about your life. 12. Self-love will will help you frown against self-abuse. 13. Telling yourself the Truth about life and acting on it is a form of self-love. Acting on those resolutions you made in 2022 is an example of self-love. Developing yourself through reading of life changing books is also a form of self-love. The determinant of self-love in our life is the daily decisions that we make.
