We want to eat our cake and still have it, it is totally impossible. We usually procrastinate because we have others things doing but the main reason why we mainly procrastinate, is because we scared of doing the task, so procrastinate and procrastinate, until we are fed up and face the consequences for our failure to do the task. We exhibit this when we want to read for an exam, or start an exercise routine, start a tedious work assignment and so on. So, how do we overcome this very bad habit? You have to learn to manage your distractions. If you can see temptations, you are more likely to be distracted by them, therefore, leading to you procrastinating. For example, recent study shows that, having your phone out and in sight, even if you are not using it, can make you perform 20% less than if you had put your phone away. The mere presence of a cell phone, may be sufficent enough to distract you and reduce your level of attention to your work. When working on a task, choose wisely where and with whom you are working. Where and with whom you surround yourself with is very important when you are trying to avoid distractions. Working with active and positive minded colleagues, can help in getting your task done faster and better. They tend to encourage you to keep working, and that is because you see them busy and working their ass out. When you are in the same space/environment with such colleagues, it can lead to healthy competition which will result in increase in level of your productivity. But when you are surrounded with less active and negative minded people, who would rather enjoy spending their time in watching movies or games, you tend to get distracted with their activities and after some while, you would most likely join them in their distractions and forget your task, which will then result to you procrastinating your tasks till the next day.
