But make no mistake. Many people out there behave as others, not themselves. These people are like having multiple identities or also being people without identity. Because that looks not him. I made this article after I read a sentence delivered by one of Indonesia's talented young writers, Bernard Batubara. He once wrote, that we must be the main characters in our own lives. Don't just be extras or complements. Wherever, whenever, we must be important. Remember that. As he wrote.

This appeal for me is a must. This is our life, not someone else's life. Then why should we be someone else. This is our life, and only once. So why do we have to live with pretense. We better live with totality as ourselves. Trying to do the best for yourself and others. Even if we die, we have lived right. Is not it?

Selamat malam sahabat Stemians. Selamat menjadi diri sendiri seutuhnya. Setiap kita punya identitas, punya ciri khas. Pada kita juga menempel banyak hal lain yang menjadi ciri dan pembeda dengan orang-orang di sekitar kita.

Namun jangan salah. Banyak orang di luar sana yang bertingkah menjadi orang lain, bukan menjadi dirinya sendiri. Orang-orang ini seperti memiliki identitas ganda atau juga menjadi orang tanpa identitas. Karena yang terlihat bukan dirinya. Ia justru menyerupai orang lain, sikap penuh kepalsuan, identitas palsu, alamat palsu, bahkan dengan wajah dan foto yang bukan dirinya.

Orang-orang ini seperti pemain sinetron. Bisa berubah sesuai tokoh dalam cerita yang diperankan. Namun kita tidak boleh seperti itu. Kita hidup bukan sedang bersinetron. Sebaik-baik kita adalah yang selalu tampil sebagai diri sendiri. Begitulah seharusnya.

Tulisan ini saya buat setelah saya membaca sebuah kalimat yang disampaikan oleh salah seorang penulis muda berbakat Indonesia, Bernard Batubara. Ia pernah menulis, bahwa kita harus jadi tokoh utama dalam hidup kita sendiri. Jangan cuma jadi figuran atau pelengkap. Di mana pun, kapan pun, kita harus jadi penting. Ingat itu. Begitu tulisnya.

Imbauan ini bagi saya adalah sebuah keharusan. Ini hidup kita, bukan hidup orang lain. Lantas mengapa kita harus menjadi orang lain. Ini hidup kita, dan hanya sekali. Lantas mengapa kita harus hidup dengan kepura-puraan. Lebih baik kita hidup dengan totalitas sebagai diri sendiri. Berusaha berbuat yang terbaik untuk diri dan orang lain. Andai pun kita mati, kita sudah hidup dengan benar. Bukankah begitu?
