# Steem Basic Income Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. This update we’ve got the usual fun and simple contests and giveaways, but we also have some aimed at helping various Steemians in their real life (yes there is life outside Steemit). So please take a moment to look them over and see if you’re able to enter and help people out. We’ve also had inquiries about contests not making the list, or what it takes to make it on the list. So I thought I’d let you in on my process so you can see what makes the cut and what doesn’t. 1. I always start at the contest channel on the [SteemBasicIncome Discord server](https://discord.gg/VpghTRz). 2. If I find 10-15 valid contests there, then that’s what gets into the update. 3. If I feel we need more on the list (and I have time) I’ll do a search through the #steembasicincome tag. But that tag is used (and abused) by many so it’s time consuming to sort through. 4. I’ll put in any contest that has SBI as part of the prize pool AND gives a deadline that is at least 24 hours after the update will post. No wishy-washy hand waving about when or if the prize will be given. 5. I don’t always find every contest. Sometimes the update publishing overlaps with a contest posting on the Discord server. Sometimes I might just miss it. But as it says later in this post, it’s a sampling of the contests available. Feel free to search the tag or visit the discord to see what others might be running at any given time. Please try to think about your submissions and reward these great hosts with quality submissions. If you enjoy somebody’s contest format, check their feed for more, and follow them so you don’t have to wait for our listing to come out! First prize is 5 SBI shares but you could win upvotes too! 10. https://steemit.com/music/@eturnerx/music-keshyou-keshyou-q-pop-girl-power Guess @eturnerx’s favorite song (based on the post) and win 10 SBI shares. Amazing! ## Check out these recurring contests too! NEW: We have a new addition to the recurring section. Check out “What is it?” by @insideoutlet below. Quite a few industrious Steemians run contests regularly. Here is a list of the ones we know about at the moment. All of these have been running for months so you can count on their posted schedule. Be sure to check each account and look for the contest name as the links change each week. Also remember to read the full contest description as the rules and prize values sometimes change. ### @freewritehouse The folks over at @freewritehouse run three contests each week. All of them are designed to encourage community engagement and highlight other's work. Besides the prizes from the @freewritehouse account, they are always interested in hearing from anyone who will sponsor a contest and so they can offer even bigger prizes. ![Favorite Freewrite](https://i.imgur.com/TsM3Zjmm.png) **A Favorite Freewrite You Read** contest runs every Tuesday for just 24 hours. You need to read some freewrites written (you can read this post to see what they are), and then comment on the contest posts about which ones you liked best and why. If they choose your comment you win shares of SBI. ![Favorite Freewrite Poem](https://i.imgur.com/BUVzHPym.png) **Recommend your Favorite Freewrite Poem** is a poetry version of the Favorite Freewrite contest and it runs every Friday. Make a comment about a freewrite poem you loved and you could win SBI shares. But be quick! When Friday is over, so is the contest - until the next week that is. ![We Write](https://i.imgur.com/T3Y7VkXm.png) **We-Write** is a new challenge they’ve just started in the last few weeks. It runs every other Wednesday (next one is July 25th) with a prize of 4 SBI divided among winners. ### [Finish the Story Contest](https://steemit.com/@bananafish) ![Freewritehouse](https://i.imgur.com/cYDLFlkm.jpg) This weekly contest is run by @f3nix. He recently launched the @bananafish account which now hosts the contest which runs every Wednesday. He posts the beginning of a story, and you finish it. Then you post your complete story for everyone to read. The winner, as chosen by the @bananafish god, wins SBI shares. The important thing to know about this contest is that it's an ongoing creativity workshop, so if you miss one deadline you can participate in the next. ### [Paying it Forward](https://steemit.com/@pifc) ![Paying it Forward](https://i.imgur.com/MGKDgMzm.jpg) In the spirit of helping new Steemians, this contest focuses on curating great content and is run by @thedarkhorse. It runs weekly on Mondays and asks that you find two "High Quality Original Content Blog Posts" to recommend for curation. Four judges decide which recommendations were the best and multiple winners get SBI shares. Follow @thedarkhorse to see the latest contest post and read it for full details. ### [ZapFic Writing Contest]([https://steemit.com/@felt.buzz](https://steemit.com/@felt.buzz)) ![Zapfic](https://i.imgur.com/6wvKQfnm.jpg) Like super short stories? Try writing one in 232 characters or fewer for your chance to win SBI in this contest run by @felt.buzz. Every Wednesday he posts a new prompt to use for your very short story. Be sure to read the rules on this one as you'll need a Zappl account to qualify, but your stories will be automatically posted to Steem too. ### [Steemit World Map Challenge](https://steemit.com/@runicar) ![Steemit World Map Challenge](https://i.imgur.com/7nLlxbe.png) Travel the world with your fellow Steemians in the #swmchallenge run by @runicar. You simply need to share a blog about a place you visited and share it on the map (read the post to see how). To enter, read the current post and previous stories, then write your own version of what “piratey” things he gets up to next. ### [What is it?]([https://steemit.com/@insideoutlet)) Inspired by a game she played with the kids at her niece's birthday one year, this game is straightforward. She posts an image, and you guess what it is. The rules are simple enough, guess right and win an SBI share. NOTE: Contest images used with permission from their owners. ## How to get on the recurring contest list Do you run a regular contest that you’d like to see in our recurring contest section? We have some simple criteria you need to have to be included: - SBI shares must be part of the prizes given out. - Contest needs to be running 5 weeks or 10 contests on a consistent schedule, whichever comes first. If you think your contest qualifies let us know in the comments or on our Discord channel and we’ll check it out. Instead of trying to be thoroughly comprehensive (and then end up not publishing) like we have before, we have only included the most recent contests (skipping duplicates). Include the name of a Steemian to sponsor in the transaction memo (preceded by @). You and the person you sponsor will each receive 1 share in the program. You can sponsor *any* active Steemian, it does not have to be a current member.
