In liquids and gases conduction occurs due to collisions and diffusion of molecules during random movement. whereas in solids it occurs due to a combination between the movements of a grid and the transport of energy by means of free electrons. For practical purposes they are used in a number of applications from domestic heating and conditioning to chemical processes. It differs from a mixing chamber in that it prevents the fluids from combining.
