Ich habe zwar schon einen [Witness Post](/deutsch/@satren/ich-bin-ein-witness-ein-ueberblick) veröffentlicht, aber dieser war vor allem eine Information für die, die bereits wissen, was ich mache. Dieser Post ist für alle anderen, die Wissen wollen was ich mache und warum man mir seinen Vote geben kann.

## Wer sind Witnesse? Steem als Blockchain hat eine Regierung, die Witnesse. Jeder Steemian hat 30 Stimmen. Anders als bei einer demokratischen Wahl, ist die Wahl auf Steem jedoch nicht geheim und gleich, aber sie ist frei. Das Gewicht der eigenen Stimme ist von der eigenen Steempower abhängig. Je mehr Steempower man besitzt, desto mehr Gewicht hat die eigene Stimme. Die Witnesse werden in zwei Gruppen gesetzt. Die Top20 und den Rest. Die Top20 bilden die Regierung auf Steem. Wenn 17 von ihnen einer Änderung zustimmen, wird diese umgesetzt. Einfachstes Beispiel ist ein Hardfork. Wenn 17 von ihnen Zustimmen und der Termin für den Hardfork erreicht ist, wird er umgestimmt. Stimmen sie dagegen, passiert nichts. Die restlichen Witnesse sitzen auf einer Ersatzbank. Bei Steem redet man von Runden. Eine Runde besteht aus 21 Blöcken, von jeweils 3 Sekunden. 20 dieser Blöcke werden gleichmäßig auf die Top20 verteilt. Der 21. Block geht an einen Witness auf der Ersatzbank. Hierbei werden die Blöcke nach dem Verhältnis der Votes verteilt. Je mehr Steempower einen Witness gewählt haben, desto mehr Blöcke werden ihm zugeteilt. Für jeden dieser Blöcke bekommt der Witness 10 % der mit diesem Block erzeugten Steem in Form von Steem Power. Hiermit soll dieser seine Node finanzieren. Je mehr Nodes existieren, desto dezentraler sind die Daten verteilt und vor Korruption geschützt.

## Who are Witnesse? Steem as the Blockchain has a government, the Witnesse. Each Steemian has 30 votes. Unlike a democratic election, however, the election on Steem is not secret and equal, but it is free. The weight of one's vote depends on one's Steempower. The more Steempower you have, the more weight your vote has. The Witnesse are placed in two groups. The top 20 and the rest. The Top20 build the government on Steem. If 17 of them agree to a change, it will be implemented. The simplest example is hardfork. If 17 of them agree and the date for the hardfork is reached, the hardfork is changed. If they vote against, nothing happens. The remaining windows sit on a substitutes' bench. At Steem, they talk about laps. A round is 21 blocks of 3 seconds each. Twenty of these blocks are evenly split amongst the top twenty. The 21st block goes to a Witness on the backbench. Here the blocks are distributed according to the ratio of the votes. The more Steempower has chosen a Witness, the more blocks will be allocated to him. For each of these blocks, the Witness receives 10% of the Steem generated by that block in the form of Steem Power. This is to finance his node. The more nodes there are, the more decentralized the data is distributed and protected against corruption.

## Warum bin ich ein Witness geworden? Vor einiger Zeit haben wir uns über genau dieses Thema unterhalten. Es sind in den letzten Jahren viele Witnesse weggefallen. Als wieder einer seine Node eingestellt hatte, waren einige von uns auf dem DACH-Discord und haben uns deshalb Sorgen gemacht. Irgendwann im Lauf der Diskussion fragte @balte wer sich vorstellen könnte, eine Node zu betreiben. Ich meinte warum nicht, als Informatikstudent und Erfahrung im Betreiben von Minern für verschiedene Kryptowährungen, ein paar kleineren Projekten, für welche ich Server einrichten musste und dem allgemeinen Wissen über Steem, sah ich darin keine große Herausforderung. Und so begann ich Ende August die Node aufzusetzen. Leider ging dabei einiges schief. Ihr erinnert euch sicher an den Hardfork. Als sich dieses Chaos gelegt hatte, kamen mir Probleme an meinen Server und eine Beschäftigung als Tutor an der Universität in den Weg. So dauerte es noch weitere Monate, bis ich es endlich hinbekommen habe die Node zum Laufen zu bringen. Dank @balte und seiner finanziellen Unterstützung zur Deckung der laufenden Kosten, bis die Node halbwegs kostendeckend läuft, konnte ich viel rumspielen und herumprobieren, um das System zu optimieren. Im Moment läuft die Node auf folgendem System: - Ubuntu 19.10 - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Hexa-Core - 64 GB DDR4 RAM - 2 x 2 TB SATA 6 Gb/s Enterprise HDD - 1 GB/s Bandbreite Und für alle die es interessiert, der Server steht im Moment in Finnland und wird komplett mit erneuerbaren Energien betrieben.

## Why have I become a Witness? Some time ago we talked about exactly this topic. There has been a lot of Witnesse dropped out over the last few years. When again one of them stopped his node, some of us were on the DACH Discord and were worried about it. At one point during the discussion @balte asked who could imagine running a node. I said why not, being a computer science student and experienced in running miners for various cryptocurrencies, a few small projects for which I had to set up servers and the general knowledge about Steem, I didn't see it as a big challenge. And so I started to set up the node at the end of August. Unfortunately, a lot of things went wrong. You probably remember the Hardfork. When this chaos was over, problems with my server and a job as a tutor at the university got in the way. So it took another few months until I finally managed to get the node up and running. Thanks to @balte and its financial support to cover the running costs until the node is running at half cost, I was able to play around and try things around to optimize the system. At the moment the node runs on the following system: - Ubuntu 19.10 - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Hexa-Core - 64 GB DDR4 RAM - 2 x 2 TB SATA 6 Gb/s Enterprise HDD - 1 GB/s Bandwidth And for those who are interested, the server is currently located in Finland and is completely powered by renewable energy.

## Was habe ich bisher gemacht? Schwerpunkt meiner bisherigen Arbeit war das Übersetzen von Posts. Schwerpunktmäßig handelte es sich dabei um @steemit, @steempeak, @splinterlands, @nextcolony und den Witnessen. Viele deutschsprachige Nutzer haben Probleme oder schlicht keine Lust englische Posts zu lesen, weshalb ich diese für sie Übersetzte und erkläre was dort geschrieben wurde. Die größte Arbeit in letzter Zeit war die Übersetzung des Steem Whitepapers ins Deutsche, wobei ich es an vielen Stellen erklärt und aktualisiert habe. Dem ein oder anderen könnte auch noch der Post zum HF21 im Gedächtnis sein, in welchem ich alle Informationen dazu zusammengefasst, erklärt und die neue Rewardkurve nachgerechnet habe. Des Weiteren habe ich die letzten Monate einige Beiträge geschrieben, in welchen ich Steem und seine verschiedenen DApps versucht habe zu erklären. Unter anderem zu den verschiedenen Währungen auf Steem, neuen Funktionen auf Steemit oder Steempeak. Außerdem zu Änderungen in den Spielen wie Splinterlands, Nextcolony oder Steemknights.

## What have I done so far? The focus of my work so far has been the translation of posts. The main focus was on @steemit, @steempeak, @splinterlands, @nextcolony, and the Witnesses. Many German-speaking users have problems or just don't want to read English posts, so I translated them for them and explain what was written there. The biggest work lately was the translation of the Steem Whitepaper into German, where I explained and updated it in many places. Some of you might also remember the post about the HF21, in which I summarized and explained all the information about it and calculated the new rewards curve. Furthermore, I wrote some articles in the last months in which I tried to explain Steem and his different DApps. Among other things about the different currencies on Steem, new features on Steemit or Steempeak. Also about changes in the games like Splinterlands, Nextcolony or Steemknights.

## Was habe ich vor? Also was hab ich jetzt vor? Warum sollte man mich als Witness wählen? Ich werde meine Übersetzungsarbeit ins Deutsche weiterführen, habe vor weitere Anleitungen zu den verschiedenen Tools und DApps zu schreiben. Aktuell habe ich zwei Projekte in Arbeit, einmal eine grobe Einführung in die Frontends Steemit und Steempeak. Außerdem will ich mir die Communities näher ansehen und eine Einführung hierein schreiben. Irgendwann wollte ich mich auch noch mal daran setzen, eine grobe Einführung in den Steem an sich zu schreiben. Was sind Steem, SP, SBD. Wie votet man? Wie editiert man Beiträge, wie nutzt man Hashtags, wie votet man für Witnesse? Diese einführenden Beiträge werde ich nach Möglichkeiten Zweisprachig veröffentlichen. Ein anderes Thema, um das ich mich kümmern will, ist ein Witness Proxy. Viele wissen nicht welche Witnesse sie Voten sollen, was diese machen und wo man Informationen her bekommt. Ich will mich hinsetzen und zum einen einmal alle Witnesse anschauen und so viel wie möglich kurz über sie schreiben. Und für alle, die sich nicht selbst Entscheiden wollen, wird ein Proxy eingerichtet, welcher Transparent 20-25 Witnesse wählt. Ein langfristiges Projekt ist das Einrichten einer API Node. Hierfür laufen im Hintergrund Gespräche und es wird ein Team aufgestellt. Dieses Projekt ist jedoch nicht von heute auf Morgen umsetzbar.

## What am I up to? So what do I do now? Why should I be chosen to be a Witness? I will continue my translation work into German, plan to write more manuals for the different tools and DApps. Currently, I'm working on two projects, one is a rough introduction to the frontends Steemit and Steempeak. I also want to take a closer look at the Communities and write an introduction. At some point, I also wanted to write a rough introduction to the Steem itself. What are Steem, SP, SBD. How do you vote? How do you edit articles, how do you use hashtags, how do you vote for Witnesse? I will publish these introductory articles bilingually, if possible. Another topic I want to deal with is a Witness Proxy. Many don't know which Witnesses to vote for, what they do and where to get information. I want to sit down and take a look at all Witnesses and write as much as possible about them. And for all those who don't want to decide for themselves, a proxy is set up, which transparently votes 20-25 Witnesses. A long term project is to set up an API node. For this purpose, talks are going on in the background and a team is set up. However, this project cannot be implemented overnight.
