Some minor complaints about Diablo 4.. haha

in gaming •  last month

If you are familiar with how I write you probably already know that it simply isn't possible for me to fully enjoy a game. I look at it as objectivity, not pessimism because basically all games are going to have a flaw or two.

Diablo 4 is a damn near perfect game, well if you enjoy that sort of game, but there are some aspects of it that I find rather annoying and potential buyers need to be made aware of this.

getting hung up on terrain

This happens entirely too frequently. you'll be running along doing an area, clearing mobs, and then all of a sudden you just stop moving because a twig or something like that is blocking your path. This is ridiculous that something like that would trip up someone that can shoot fireballs or spin in circles constantly while throwing knives.

Most of the areas are pretty wide open but there are certain zones such as the swamps where there are little vines all over the place and I was getting stuck on these all the damn time. Since my build is movement based, this completely throws off my flow and can result in bad things happening to my health bar too. I don't know how they could have weeded this out, but it is super annoying and one of the only things that makes me mad in this game.

The friggin doors man

This is a staple of Diablo since the very beginning but again, it throws off my runs when I am zooming around killing everything is sight and the bam, i hit a door and have to reset my cooldowns to take on what is on the other side of it. Often, what is on the other side of it is another door, then another one, and another. I don't really see the point but perhaps they are in there specifically to throw off your skill use rotation especially if you are playing on console and therefore the button you have to use in order to open the door is the same button as one of your assigned skills.

You are going to wander around using the minimap

This game is beautiful and it almost never slows down because I believe it was built having the specs of modern consoles in mind. It moves really fast and the graphics are wonderful. Too bad that during big events you probably aren't even going to be enjoying them though because the terrain all starts to look the same after a while so you are likely going to be playing certain areas by exclusively monitoring the mini map in the top right corner.

gotta love those cutting-edge modern graphics!

I suppose this last thing is going to remain part of people's lives in any Diablo game because they have intentionally put a ton of stuff in the area you find yourself in on a regular basis. It simply wouldn't be possible for them to do a map overlay on the screen like they have done in the past and how POE2 does now, because there is just too much going on, on your screen, at any given point in time.

time based events being very difficult to spot on the map

This is probably my biggest gripe. There are these events that are critical to your advancement in seasonal play (the best kind of play) and they spawn every 2 minutes or so. The problem is that the icon for these events are the same size as the hundreds of other icons that appear on your map.

Ok, now find the seasonal event! Hurry up! You only have 2 minutes to get there before it begins! This becomes a crazy and stressful game of "where's Waldo" and for someone like me with less than awesome eyesight, it's a source of great frustration. There are filters that you can apply in your minimap so that only waypoints and events appear but in my mind I think it would have made a lot more sense to simply have the seasonal events either be larger icons, or have them be blinking / flashing. Basically everyone is doing these events in endgame and for them to be nearly impossible to spot is just lame.

That's about all the "bad" i can come up with though and for those to be my only gripes - especially when you consider that I am a VERY fussy gamer - that is a good sign for Blizzard.

This is one of the few games I have ever purchased that I can say without question that it is worth every single cent of the $50 I have spent on it.
