It’s native to much of South America, Central America, the West Indies, and Mexico which is also naturalized in the southeastern United States (Florida, Texas, Louisiana & South Carolina), much of Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia & Oceania. Canna can be used to treat menstrual pains. The root can be used to treat gonorrhea and amenorrhoea. In Nigeria, people turn the root into a powder and ingest it to treat diarrhea and dysentery. Its vibrant and unique blooms, disease resistance, and ability to attract pollinators. It's also relatively easy to grow & can tolerate heat & humidity. Furthermore, it can be used to add a tropical flair to gardens & can be grown in various settings, such as beds, borders & containers.
They also use the flowers as a medicine for malaria.
