It’s commonly known as the Indian shot, African arrowroot, edible canna, purple arrowroot, Sierra Leone arrowroot,[3] is a plant species in the family of Cannaceae. It’s native to much of South America, Central America, the West Indies, and Mexico which is also naturalized in the southeastern United States (Florida, Texas, Louisiana & South Carolina), much of Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia & Oceania. Canna can be used to treat menstrual pains. The root can be used to treat gonorrhea and amenorrhoea. In Nigeria, people turn the root into a powder and ingest it to treat diarrhea and dysentery. Its vibrant and unique blooms, disease resistance, and ability to attract pollinators. It's also relatively easy to grow & can tolerate heat & humidity. Furthermore, it can be used to add a tropical flair to gardens & can be grown in various settings, such as beds, borders & containers.
They also use the flowers as a medicine for malaria.
