Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #35

This contest is an interesting one where most people will know what is called farming and various type of farming activities we have. Today I will like to write my opinion for this contest and here is my contribution.

What do you understand by farming

Farming is the process of cultivating land by farmers, planting different varieties of crops on the same land, and harvesting the crops when they reach maturity. Farming is also the practice of rearing livestock for meat or milk with the aim of making a profit. Every farmer does their best by ensuring they put in more effort to produce farm products in order to meet final consumers at their convenience.

Farming needs management and monitoring if a farmer wants to be successful. The crops that farmers can plant include maize, beans, guinea corn, millet, and so on. Some farmers in West Africa have adopted modern means of farming because it makes their work easier.

Discuss on the different Types of Farming and the importance of each

We have different types of farming in which farmers practice on a daily basis in order to help feed the masses.

➡️ Livestock farming: This type of farming activity consists of raising domestic animals or livestock such as goats, turkeys, chickens, sheep, cows, etc. for human consumption.

Importance:

• It generates income for the farmers engaged in this livestock business.

➡️ Organic farming: This type of farming focuses only on a natural method used by the farmers to grow their crops, such as using cow manure as fertilizer for crop progress. Local farmers try as much as possible to avoid pesticide use in their farms.

Importance:

• This type of farming decreases pollution and improves soil fertility to benefit the farmers.

➡️ Urban farming: This type of farming is mainly found in urban centers where the farmers use their roofs to grow different kinds of vegetables.

Importance:

• It helps the community make progress and also helps families enjoy the unique taste of what they grow.

➡️ Precision farming: is the process of using modern technology such as drones to monitor what is happening around your farm. This type of farming helps farmers make use of irrigation to meet their customers' immediate needs.

Importance:

• It increases food production in the country and also makes the work of the farmers easier.

➡️ Subsistence farming: This type of farming is for me and my family only. It is usually on a small scale where the farmer uses it to feed his family without selling to the general public.

Importance:

• It increases local food production and also creates mutual relationships within the family.

Conclusion

Farming have created employment for some people in which they keep on practicing it in order to survive. Farmers must be respected because they put in more effort to ensure they meet the nutritional need of the consumers.
