CRANE GREASING OPERATION

Greasing Cranes at any point in time is an essential maintenance procedure and task which ensures the longevity and glitch free operation of the facility wherby, lubricants are applied acras the parts of the crane that moves for smooth operation and to also prevent tear and wearing.

To carry out a successful greasing operations, these are some step by step guide on how to go about it.

STEPS AND PREPARATIONS

Carry out Job safety analysis (JSA): With JSA you wil be able to pinpoint possible Hazards and how to mitigate the hazards

Review the Crane Manual: Get familiar with the manual so to understand the schedule and period to grease, the type of lubricant recommended and to be used, the points to apply while lubricating.

Visuals Inspection: Check for any form of wears, corroded parts, damages on the hoses etc, on the crane components such as pulleys, hooks, slings, blocks etc.

Needed Tools: There are some necessary materials needed for greasing operations. This includes; grease gun lubricators, recommended type of grease,safety gloves, rags, safety Harness, hardhart and eye goggles.

Inspect the Wire Ropes: You need to check the wire rope for any form of yet and wear, as well as corrosion on the wire rope. After the inspection, apply grease to the wire rope by using grease gun to also apply grease to the pulleys and ensure to cover the bearing surface and pivot point.
Other areas you must inspect and grease includes Hook and Hook Block, Swing System, Boom Blocks etc
After you must have completed the exercise, make sure to double check the crane components you greased to ensure they are properly done and free from excess.

Use of complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Safety they say takes us all home and as such its not negotiable when it come to using you appropriate PPe for each task.

Carry out a Test: Perform a test on the crane by lifting and swinging operation to be sure that the crane is optimal and functioning well.
