"Sorry" look a small word but has deep meaning. It calm to hearts, ends fights and brings people closer. Saying sorry shows courage, not weakness. It means you accept your mistake. A heartfelt sorry can fix broken bonds and bring peace. So friends never hesitate to say it.
Myself Safdar, and this is the story about one small word sorry. This small word saved me from losing my best friend forever.
About 2 years back, Faisal was my best friend. We were like real brothers. We grow up and played together. We shared every moment even small. We trusted each other with everything. One day, I made a mistake which almost broke our friendship.
Faisal get a new job offer. Infact he had hard worked for this. He was very happy, but offer was not final still. He told me in a low voice in my ear.
Safdar, please do not tell anyone until it becomes official.
I said yes and promised. I really want to fill my promise.
But after 2 days, when I was sitting with some common friends, I made a joke and said without unintentionally,
Soon, Faisal is going to get new job.
That time, I thought this was nothing so serious. But I did not realize how it was serious and private for him.
Same day, at evening, Faisal called me. His voice was cold. He said,
Safdar, I trusted you more than anyone. Why did you break my trust?
I was shocked. I did not know what I have to say. I realized I hurt him badly.
I sit alone, thinking again and again about what I have done. My heart was heavy. My mind said, Do not say anything. He’ll get over it.
But my heart said, Say sorry. Accept your mistake.
The next day, I went to Faisal. I connect my eyes to his eyes and said:
I am so sorry Faisal , that was a big mistake. I thought I was only joke, but now I realized I was wrong. My intention was not to hurt you. Forgive me please. If you never want to talk to me again, I can understand.
He did not speak for few time. Then he smiled and said,
Safdar, we all make mistakes in our life. But only true friends say sorry. I forgive you.
That moment was very satisfied. One word sorry saved my precious friendship. If follow my ego, I have to lost my best friend forever.
I learned a big lesson from that day:
Mistakes can break hearts, but a real sorry can all fix.
Now, whenever we sit together, he jokes,
Safdar, next time do not tell my secrets and say sorry faster!
And we both laugh.
This story looks very simple, but for me, it was life changing. The power of one honest sorry saved something very precious, our friendship.
