Do you think, an idea is better written as a book/novel or acted out as a movie? And which do you prefer?
Chetan Bhagat is very popular English writer among the Indians world over. By the way he is a Management graduate and an engineer (as I am) so I relate with him especially as he left his corporate job and started writing novels and all his novels are the best sellers.
He has inspired the readers a lot and has given them a new perspective to think through his books. His stories often touch the hearts of the youth, because they revolve around the life of the youth and their problems.
His books talk about friendship, love, relationships and social problems. He presents social issues in his stories in a different way, which appeals to every reader.
Several movies have been made based on his books written by him: many of which have also become super hits like '3 Idiots' and '2 States' are examples of this.
1: HALF GIRLFRIEND :HALF GIRLFRIEND
2: FIVE POINT SOMEONE :3 Idiots'
3: 2 STATES :2 STATES

I will discuss about 'Half Girlfriend' in this post which was released in May 2017 and I watched it on 23rd May 2017.
Writing in words and showing in scenes are two different exercises. The problem with stories coming from a book to the screen is that as soon as the words turn into scenes, the imagination has to be given a concrete form. If there is no knowledge and command of the story, environment and language, then the film becomes half-half. This is what has happened with director of 'Half Girlfriend'.
A good part of the film is about Bihar state of India and certainly the Mumbai metro team of 'Half Girlfriend' does not have the correct knowledge of Bihar state. Some real images of Bihar are also blurred and unreal. 'Half Girlfriend' falls short in language, environment and atmosphere and due to that the final impact is weak.
Watch any movie adapted from a book or novel in my case it is Half Girlfriend
"Half Girlfriend" is the story of Madhav and Riya. The hero of the movie is from rural Bihar who comes to Delhi to study at famous English College. There he meets Riya, who is from Delhi and is very smart. While Madhav speaks a rural dialect of Hindi, Riya belongs to a high-class society and speaks modern English. Madhav falls in love with Riya and expresses his love to her, but Riya rejects his love.

However, she agrees to be his 'half girlfriend.' This book talks about modern relationships and how today's relationships work. This movie passes through St. Stephen's College in Delhi to Bihar and to the streets of New York and shows the story of love between the hero and heroin as the book presents love, relationships, and the complexities of the heart in a lively manner. Sadly this is missing from the movie.
"Half Girlfriend" is a heartwarming novel that touches upon the complexities of modern relationships. Bhagat skillfully weaves a story that explores the highs and lows of heartfelt love in a heartrending and relatable way. Suitable for readers who enjoy interesting and emotional love stories.
From the movie you have watched above, what can you say about the strength and weakness of the movie compared to the book/novel? If you have not read the book, then tell us what captivated you the most in the movie, and if you were to write a book on the movie, how would that part be written to captivate the reader?
Chetan Bhagat had taken a leap in the novel. Since Bill Gates had visited this area, his hero had to be from this area . In this manipulation, he made the mistake of giving the hero Madhav a local surname. The director has spoiled the story as he had been negligent in creating the language, environment and atmosphere. There are visual mistakes in the depiction of the city he was supposed to shot his movie.
Arjun Kapoor, the hero, said he took training for this movie. Now either the trainer was incompetent or Arjun Kapoor, the hero, had not taken the right training. His language is not perfect and makeup needs more attention. 'Half Girlfriend,' which is spread from Delhi to Bihar and from Bihar to New York, is basically a love story.
The director has treated it accordingly but failed in showing and telling the real Bihar. Madhav and Riya's love story is completed by crossing the barrier of language and region. Geographical distances are not significant in this context. In 'Half Girlfriend,' logic is sidelined and coincidences abound. Why did the writer and director not have any problem in connecting Bill Gates' Bihar visit and the slogan "Save daughters and educate them," which looks like a publicity stunt?
Many such illogical coincidences can be mentioned. If one does not look for reality in 'Half Girlfriend,' then the film may look good as a love story. The director highlights the moments of romance very well, as his talent is visible in this film as well.
But I don't see the relevance of why it rains every now and then to stimulate love. And then there is music and songs. Arjun Kapoor the hero and Shraddha Kapoor the female lead have tried their best to do justice to their characters, but they get entangled in the limitations of the script.
The friends of hero Madhav Jha in the film have not been able to get full opportunity, which could have taken the movie a little further. One other friend, Shailesh, is from the Delhi hostel to New York, but his presence and his attitude towards Madhav remain unclear; even he could add weight to the movie. The role of mother needs to be a little more positive.
The film with the same title as Chetan Bhagat's novel 'Half Girlfriend' which was a nice read has been a complete disappointment for me, even if it did good business in the cinema world.
If I were to write a book on the movie, I would do a couple of changes to captivate the reader
I would tighten up the dialogues of the film and reduce the romance. I will rearrange them so the moviegoers will be able to connect with the film on better terms. The scenes shot on the set or in some other city do not match Patna or Dumraon. Which broker goes to the Ganges River in Patna and shows apartments? The production team could have paid attention to these small details.
Watch it on imbd
One more thing I found strange: whenever Riya used to feel sad, she would enter inside India Gate and reach the top. Going once seems fine, but despite such tight security, her climbing the India Gate again and again seems very artificial.
Meanwhile, the entry of Bill Gates, who visits Bihar, makes Madhav gather all his energy and deliver a lecture on girls' education during Bill Gates' program. This looked so artificial, or maybe it was a sponsored program that slowed down the movie's tempo. I would delete these scenes and add something else.
This story is about a boy from Simrawan village in Bihar state. Madhav belongs to the royal family of Simrawan village, who goes to Delhi to study. Madhav's English is very poor, but he gets admission to college under the sports quota. He meets Riya in college. Madhav gets impressed seeing Shraddha speaking fluent English. I would like him to join a coaching center and improve his English.
Arjun Kapoor has not looked good at all in the role of a Bihar boy in the film. He does not look like a Bihari at all from his speech. Shraddha Kapoor has also acted well. More efforts have been made on female lead's clothes than on her acting. I would rectify these to improve the movie. Some shots of the film has been shot in Patna, but these scenes seem completely artificial. I will make them look like shot in Patna.
Thank you for participating in this challenge of season 25.
Seem like an interesting movie! I will check it out soon. You did well! Kudos
