The Annoying Relative

Living with family members is great blessing, but sometimes relatives visit make things difficult. Some stay for long time, eat too much and complain all the time. This contest gave me a chance to speak honestly about my experience with such relatives. I hope others has also like my story.

My mostly relatives are very nice but few are not so good. When my relatives visit, it depends on how they behave. If they help, behave nicely and stay for a short time, it feels excellent. But when they visit too much, eat a lot and do not help, it becomes a burden for me. Sharing food and space becomes create problem. I start feeling stressed instead of happy. I like visitors who respect our time and family.

If relative behave like they own house, I only wait for them to leave house. So, it is only an advantage when they bring love. Other side, it becomes a real burden.

Yes, I have an uncle who always makes life difficult when he visits. He tells my parents I sleep too much and use my mobile a lot. He does not like me going out and watching TV. Because of him, I have scolded and my allowance become short.

He treats like a harsh teacher instead of being guest. I try to live away from him. I feel uncomfortable in my uncle presence in my home. He does not want to understand me. He only keeps judging. I do not hate him but I really do not like him when he visits us.

Once, my uncle stayed with us for 15 days. Every morning, he shouted if I was not awake early in the morning. I do not like his teaching method. He did not let me use my mobile and to talk my friends. When I laughed, he thought I was being lazy.

He kept telling my parents I was not serious in life. I had to do extra house work and could not go outside. It felt like I was in school again instead of home. I finally felt freedom after he left my house. It was the most stressful times in my life.

Of course this is possible, sometimes relatives can divide a home, not physically but emotionally. When they speak badly about one family member to another, it creates misunderstanding. If they compare children or complain too much, it brings stress and sometime fights. Some relatives try to control things their own way. This can break the peace at home.

Everyone starts feeling tense and upset. A home should feel safe and full of love. But when relatives bring negative energy, it breaks unity. So yes, if not careful, relatives can cause emotional division in families that can last a long time.
