I have a passion for watching movies in all languages since my childhood but I never thought of reviewing a movie. And today when I got a chance, I remembered a French movie that I had seen recently.

Today I would like to discuss the movie "Dogman" released in September 2023, this movie is a successful attempt to show the various aspects of human character in great depth. In this, the director has presented full evidence of being a psychologist.

**Dogman (or Dogman) is a 2023 English-language French action thriller film written and directed by Luc Besson and starring Caleb Landry Jones, Jojo T. Gibbs, Christopher Denham, John Charles Aguilar and Grace Palma. Set in New Jersey, it depicts a man who was tortured by his father and loves dogs.

Describe the story and setting of the film.

In this movie, a man keeps dogs and earns money by making them fight among themselves by keeping them hungry for many days. But his teenage son Douglas, who had soft feelings for dogs, saves his share of food and secretly feeds it to the dogs.

On knowing this, the father, who is a cruel and demoniac owner, locks his innocent son in the dogs' cage. And the innocent Douglas spends a lot of time with the dogs.

This is where he gets the power to understand the feelings of dogs and the dogs also start understanding his gestures. Then one day, blinded by anger, the father shoots Douglas and the bullet gets stuck in his spinal cord due to which he loses the power to walk. The director has shown various aspects of human character in this movie very minutely.

Then Douglas is freed from the cage with the help of dogs and the police and his father and brother are punished. Douglas had acquired all his education through the old magazines kept in the cage. Douglas is then put in a child shelter home where he falls in love with Salma, an older psychiatrist.

The director has also shown what goes on in a child's mind. He then learns Shakespeare's plays, disguises, and opera singing from her. When he grows up, he goes to Salma, who has become a big actress, to express his love. But Salma is married and Douglas feels that she had no feelings for him and was only showing her kindness to a handicapped person. From here, Douglas becomes a criminal and commits thefts with the help of dogs. He has 100 dogs.

When Douglas is caught, Evelyn, a psychiatrist, is sent to the police station to interrogate him. Through flashbacks, he tells the story of his life. First, as a child, he was a victim of his father's violence to the point of losing the use of his legs; His brief stay in a juvenile institution, where he falls in love with his theatre teacher, Salma, who teaches him about Shakespeare, leads him to own several dogs that help him steal jewellery and valuables as well as protect those in need. Doug also reveals that he performs weekly as a drag queen in a cabaret act. He tells PsychSack that he also performed as Caleb Landry Jones Douglas "Doug" Monroe.

If you were the director of the film, what would you have done differently?

Actually, the director of this movie has portrayed the various characteristics of human nature very well in its presentation, if I had been the director myself, I might not have paid attention to such details.

But still, there is one thing that bothers me about the movie, that is, the director has not shown the subject of training the dogs anywhere in this movie, it is also amazing that so many dogs can be raised by a single handicapped person without any helper or assistance. If I were the director, I would definitely press to remove these shortcomings.

Still, let me tell you that Dogman was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, where it premiered on 31 August 2023. It was released in France on 27 September 2023. The film received generally mixed reviews from critics.
