Greetings,
I hope you all are doing well and staying safe. As we move deeper into June, one thing is for sure — the heat is becoming unbearable across Pakistan. This summer isn’t just hot—it’s record-breaking. Compared to previous years, we are seeing a dangerous rise in temperatures.
Cities like Jacobabad and Sibi have already touched 50°C, while Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi are constantly around 42-45°C. This is not just another hot summer; it’s a heat emergency.
Going back five to ten years back, most cities could not experience temperatures that exceeded 40o C rarely. They are prevalent nowadays. Why? The threat of climate change is not in the future anymore, but reality. This extreme heat has been brought by the rising global temperatures, the pollution in the urban areas, and deforestation. But unfortunately we did not heed the warnings and now, we are suffering the consequences.
However, we can still save ourselves.
First and most obvious, your best friend is hydration. Have water whenever you are not thirsty. Always take a bottle of water with you. Replace your body salts by adding ORS or lemon with salt. Soft drinks and tea should be avoided; they increase dehydration.
The time of the day--unless very necessary, never venture out between 11 am to 4 pm. In case you have to go, then cover your head, wear loose cotton clothes and carry an umbrella. The sun is deceptive, never assume that you can only get heatstroke after an hour of being in the hot weather; it will take only 20 minutes in extreme weather conditions to get you.
At home you should use cool baths, wet towels on your head or neck, and you should not eat heavy meals. And also, do not leave kids, old individuals, and animals in cars, not even for a second. It becomes fatal within no time.

But beyond personal care, we must also learn from this situation. This heatwave is not just a weather event—it’s a wake-up call. Start planting trees, minimize waste burning, avoid unnecessary driving, and save water. These small steps may feel minor, but they are powerful when done together as a society.
Remember—protection today, prevention tomorrow.
Let’s spread awareness, help those who need water or shade, and face this challenge together.
Stay hydrated, stay wise, and let’s work towards a cooler, safer Pakistan. 💚
