"Si vis pacem, para bellum"
Questa citazione di Tucidide e' stata tirata in ballo dal nostro presidente del consiglio (il minuscolo e' d'obbligo) per giustificare il fatto che dovremo portare le spese militari al 5% del pil.
Se vuoi la pace prepara la guerra...
Alessandro Barbero, che un po' di storia se ne intende, in una sua conferenza di qualche tempo fa aveva dimostrato come questa fosse una cazzata tragica.

Siamo intorno al 1910/12 prima della grande guerra.
La Germania vede che l'Inghilterra ha una grande flotta, "dobbiamo per forza riarmarci, avere anche noi una grande flotta, se vogliamo essere sicuri ed evitare una guerra".
Gli inglesi vedono che i tedeschi si armano; "Dobbiamo avere piu' navi e piu' cannoni dei tedeschi se vogliamo salvaguardare la pace".
I francesi vedono che i tedeschi si riarmano; "Dobbiamo cambiare la lunghezza della leva obbligatoria se vogliamo la pace, portandola da 2 a 3 anni".
E via discorrendo...

Tenete conto che in quegli anni le nazioni spendevano follie in armamenti, parliamo di oltre il 30% del pil.
In piu' il Re d'Inghilterra, il Kaiser di Prussia e lo Zar di tutte le Russie erano cugini, come puo' scoppiare una guerra fra cugini?
Pero' se ti riarmi, investi del denaro che sottrai alla spesa pubblica, prima o poi quelle armi le devi usare, infatti nel 1914 e' scoppiata la prima guerra mondiale che fu un'autentica carneficina, una delle guerre piu' inutili della storia dell'umanita', ammesso che esistano le guerre utili.

Come vedete la pace non si salvaguarda preparando la guerra, se si prepara la guerra prima o poi quella guerra dovremo farla.
Invece che i classici forse e' meglio che la presidente si limiti al dialetto della Garbatella.

It was around 1910/12 before the great war.
Germany sees that England has a large fleet, "we must necessarily rearm ourselves, have a large fleet too, if we want to be safe and avoid a war".
The English see that the Germans are arming themselves; "We must have more ships and more guns than the Germans if we want to safeguard peace".
The French see that the Germans are rearming; "We need to change the length of the compulsory military service if we want peace, increasing it from 2 to 3 years".
And so on...

Keep in mind that in those years nations were spending madly on armaments, we are talking about over 30% of the GDP.
In addition, the King of England, the Kaiser of Prussia and the Tsar of all the Russias were cousins, how can a war break out between cousins?
But if you rearm, invest money that you take away from public spending, sooner or later you have to use those weapons, in fact in 1914 the First World War broke out which was a real massacre, one of the most useless wars in the history of humanity, assuming that useful wars exist.

As you can see, peace is not safeguarded by preparing for war, if we prepare for war sooner or later we will have to wage that war.
Instead of the classics, perhaps it would be better if the president limited herself to the Garbatella dialect.
