May 1st is well known as the day for the realization of the rights of working people around the world. It is also known as International Workers' Day or May Day. This day symbolizes the struggle of the working class against the long-standing exploitation, deprivation and lack of rights. . At that time, the life of workers was very difficult and miserable due to the Industrial Revolution. They had to work 12 to 16 hours a day, and they did not have fair wages or any rights. Against this, the workers came together and started a movement demanding an 8-hour working day. And they were successful. Since then, the daily work has been fixed at 8 hours. Although the movement was peaceful at the beginning, many workers were later killed in police firing.

After this incident, an awakening arose among workers around the world, and later this day began to be celebrated as International Workers' Day. May 1st was declared as Workers' Day at the Second International Workers' Conference in Paris. Since then, this day has been celebrated nationally in various countries of the world. Similarly, in our country, Bangladesh. May 1 is considered a national holiday in many countries around the world, including Bangladesh. On this day, labor organizations organize various programs such as processions, rallies, gatherings, discussion meetings, etc. Through these events, workers become aware of their rights and other sections of society can also appreciate the importance of workers' contributions.

Working people in Bangladesh are a large part of society. Not only Bangladesh but every country in the world. The role of workers in the country's economy, industry and construction sector is immense. With their hard work, agriculture, garments, construction, transportation and various sectors are moving forward. Therefore, ensuring the fair rights of workers is a fundamental responsibility of the state and society. Although the rights of workers are largely recognized in law, in reality they are still victims of exploitation, deprivation, and insecurity in many cases. Many workers work in inhumane conditions, do not receive fair wages or social security.

Women workers face further discrimination. As a result, the original spirit of May Day—establishing the rights and dignity of workers—has not yet been fully realized. Our goal on this day should not only be to celebrate the holiday, but also to pay tribute to workers and take effective steps to improve their quality of life. Workers are not just laborers, they are one of the main forces in the development and progress of a nation. Therefore, it is possible to celebrate the true significance of May Day only by establishing a sense of responsibility, humanity, and fairness towards them.
