The Crown of Thorns flower (Euphorbia milii) is a unique and captivating plant known for its vibrant blooms, thorny stems, and deep cultural significance. Native to Madagascar, this succulent shrub is a popular ornamental plant in warm climates and as a houseplant worldwide. With its dramatic appearance and rich symbolism, the Crown of Thorns offers much more than just aesthetic appeal.

The Crown of Thorns plant is instantly recognizable due to its thick, spiny stems that resemble a thorny crown hence the name. The small, colorful "flowers" are actually bracts, available in hues like red, pink, yellow, or white. True flowers are tiny and nestled in the center of the bracts. Its fleshy green leaves are oval-shaped and sparse, as the plant tends to shed older leaves over time, especially in dry conditions. The spines serve as natural defense mechanisms, making it a relatively pest-resistant plant.

The name “Crown of Thorns” comes from Christian tradition, where it's believed that this plant’s thorny stems resemble the crown placed on Jesus' head during the crucifixion. As a result, it’s often grown in church gardens and associated with faith, endurance, and sacrifice.
