Origins and Meaning

Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated to commemorate the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). You may not know about that incident. Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) to fulfill the command of Allah in his dream. He was even ready to sacrifice his son. In return for his steadfast faith, Allah replaced his son with a ram during the sacrifice and the tradition of Qurbani (sacrifice) began. To know more about it, visit this Wikipedia link

Sacrificing Animal is a symbol of surrender to almighty Allah. After being sacrificed in a halal manner, the meat of that animal, specifically camels, cows and goats, is distributed among family, relatives and the poor, which promotes the spirit of sharing and equality.

Significance of Eid ul Adha

  • In this festival, those who have the ability buy animals. Then they sacrifice the animals and distribute the meat to the poor and relatives so that everyone can eat good food on this day.
  • Connects Muslims spiritually to the pilgrimage (Hajj) taking place in Makkah.
  • Celebrated with family, friends, society and community.
  • Everyone buys and wears new clothes in this festival.

Traditional food of Eid ul Adha

traditional food of Eid-ul-Adha

Traditional food is cooked on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. In my country, sweet items, especially semai (made with milk, raisins, and cashews), are cooked in the morning. This is served when guests come to the house in the morning. This tradition has been going on in our country for many ages. Also, the male members of the house eat sweet food before going to the Idgah ground to offer special Eid prayers in the morning.

It is truly incredible, joyful and proud that on this day, beef or mutton is cooked in every household in Bangladesh.

How we celebrate Eid ul Adha

In this video I tried to cover almost every activity of this festival.

On this day, men take a bath in the morning and wear new clothes to perform the special prayers of this day. Those who cannot afford to buy new clothes clean their old clothes well in advance and use traditional perfumes known as atar.

Then, after eating sweets, especially semai, they leave for the prayers.

By 10 am, everyone wears new clothes and children go out for a walk in groups.

After the prayers, men hug each other. At this time, there is no difference between rich and poor, educated and illiterate. Everyone is equal, everyone is human.

After the prayers, children are given new currency known as salami. Then the boys slaughter the sacrificial animals and prepare their meat. Then the meat is distributed among everyone.

The whole family has lunch together and goes for a walk in the afternoon.

My Personal Connection & Celebration

Gor-e-Shahid Eidgha Maidan

My personal connection and emotions with this festival are very high because I used to enjoy this festival a lot since I was a child and there are many things that I will never forget. I buy new clothes and shoes around this festival and apply henna every year. This year's festival is special for me because this year I sacrificed with my Steemit income. This is a big achievement for me. I also cut and distributed the sacrificial meat. This festival is a joy for me because every year I apply henna to the hands of my neighbor's children. Especially on the evening before Eid, they gather at my house to apply henna on their hands. There have been many times when my hands hurt after applying henna.
I have another passion associated with this. I have mentioned before that on the morning of Eid, all the men and boys gather at the Eidgah ground to offer special prayers. The largest Eidgah ground in Bangladesh is "Gor-e-Shahid Eidgha Maidan". People from different parts of the country gather here every year. I am very happy that my house is close to this ground. Every year, the largest number of people offer Eid prayers at this ground. So I will pin this place in the Atlas location.I was very emotionally connected to this year's Eid-ul-Azha.

Community World Tour Jury

Yes ma'am, this is one of our religious festivals. Eid-ul-Adha is also known as the festival of sacrifice. When Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) asked his son to sacrifice himself according to the command of Allah, he did not do it even a single drop. This was a test for him. And because his son was his favorite and he sacrificed him according to the command of Allah, it is called the festival of sacrifice.

It is good to hear that you sacrificed this year with Steemit money. Applying henna on your hands before Eid is really beautiful and the best thing is to receive money as a gift on Eid, which is now a memory.

Among the various sweets and dishes during Eid, the trend of eating semai, payes and beef, chicken has been going on since ancient times, so this culture is still present in our country for ages.

Best wishes for the competition

Your post beautifully captured the heart and soul of Eid-ul-Adha. Reading through it brought back warm memories of how my Muslim neighbors used to share meals and joy with us during this sacred time. I especially loved the part where you mentioned applying henna for the neighborhood children – that small act says so much about the spirit of community and love that defines this celebration.

It’s incredibly inspiring that you were able to perform your own Qurbani this year from your Steemit earnings, such a meaningful milestone! Thank you for taking us through every step of the celebration, from prayer to sacrifice to shared meals. It’s a strong reminder that Eid is not just a ritual but a beautiful reflection of compassion, equality, and gratitude.

Truly, as you said, Eid-ul-Adha is not just a feast, it’s a festival of heavenly feelings. Well done! 🌙💫
