It has been raining in Wuhan for days, continuing through two consecutive weekends. Coincidentally, the rain coincided with the high school entrance examination, which didn't let up either. Today is the last day of the exam, and once it's over, middle school students will be temporarily "liberated". However, what awaits them is three years of high school with even greater pressure and intensity.
The only upside of the rain in Wuhan is that it has brought down the high temperature of over 30°C. These days, the temperature in Wuhan is only around 25°C, which is quite cool. But we have to stay indoors and can't go outdoors for activities, which is a bit frustrating. I wonder what people usually do at home on rainy days?
Next Wednesday is the final exam. Over the weekend, the main focus at home is reviewing to fill in gaps. I took out all the child's previous wrong questions, had him do targeted special training, and also found some real exam papers to practice. Of course, the child still needs to rest. So I took the child to the underground garage or the larger activity platform near the elevator on our floor to exercise.
We chose the "Everyday Skipping Rope" app on the phone, which has many somatosensory games. Recently, the child and I have been hooked on the upgraded fruit-cutting game and the high-jump game. Don't be fooled by how simple these somatosensory games look—getting a high score is no easy task.
Especially the high-jump game, where you have to keep jumping up, and boxes will appear under your feet. It looks simple, but it's hard to control the speed and rhythm. We often "fail" just a few jumps in.
These somatosensory games are fun and help improve hand-eye coordination. Different games exercise different body parts. For example, fruit-cutting mainly works the upper body, while the high-jump game trains the lower body, enhancing leg muscle bounce, core control, and reaction speed.
The child and I took turns playing, switching after each round. In just half an hour, we were both sweating profusely. The child sweats especially a lot—beads of sweat rolled down his head like he'd been caught in the rain. After 40 minutes of exercise, we were both exhausted, so we hurried home to rest, take a shower, and then do something else.
By the way, what do you usually do at home on rainy days? Watch dramas, cook, or do other activities?
